The A Government Entity Office of the State's Attorney has an opening for an entry-level Assistant State's Attorney (ASA). The State's Attorney's Office is charged with servicing the interest of the residents of Prince George's County, Maryland. This is an exempt position, meaning the Assistant State's Attorney is a political appointment and serves at the pleasure of the State's Attorney.

Typical Duties:
The State's Attorney's Office is looking to fill a vacancy for an entry-level Assistant State's Attorney (ASA) position with the Special Victims Unit (SVU). The candidate selected must be familiar with and able to effectively utilize the rules of evidence and criminal procedure to prosecute violations of the criminal law of Maryland, both confidently and professionally.

The Special Victims Unit (SVU) handles cases involving intimate partner violence, family violence, sexual assault, sexual and physical abuse of children, child pornography/child sexual abuse materials, human trafficking, elder abuse, and hate crimes. Entry-level ASAs within the unit are responsible for handling misdemeanor intimate partner cases from charging through trial. These positions require regular appearances in court and the opportunity to gain significant experience in both bench and jury trials.

Typical duties for ASAs include: screening potential cases for trial, preparing appropriate cases for trial in District Court; contacting, interviewing, and preparing victims and witnesses for all court appearances; handling bonds, evidentiary hearings, motions, and trials; drafting routine pleadings; and communicating appropriate information with the members of the Prince George's County community on a variety of issues.

Minimum Salary: $80,000.00

Minimum Qualification for Candidates:
Candidates must have graduated from an accredited law school and be eligible to practice law in the State of Maryland.

Conditions of Employment: Candidates must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting.

Eligibility to Work: Under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, an employer is required to hire only U.S. citizens and lawfully authorized alien workers. Selected candidate for employment will be required to show and verify authorization to work in the United States.
