The Office of the Attorney General has an immediate vacancy for an Assistant Attorney General position in the Health and Human Services Division. This position is responsible for providing comprehensive legal services to all of Maine Department of Health and Human Services, except for child protection and child support. Assigned duties will vary depending on the needs of DHHS and the Division but will typically include advising DHHS with all aspects of administrative and health care law and practice, providing day-to-day general counsel services, performing legal review of DHHS rules, and handling affirmative, defensive and appellate litigation in administrative forums and state and federal court. Division AAGs appear regularly before the Maine District Court for mental health trials and before the Probate Courts on guardianship matters.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must be members of the Maine Bar in good standing, have strong interpersonal skills, have an eye for legal detail, be interested in health and/or administrative law, have strong legal advocacy and writing skills, and the ability to function effectively as part of a team. One to three years of legal practice with experience with administrative law or health law is preferred.
