The Corporate Counsel will be a member of the Legal Department, report directly to the general counsel of Global Brands Group, and provide support in one or more areas of legal expertise (e.g., corporate, intellectual property and litigation).
Manage trademark and copyright matters including:
Opposition and cancellation proceedings;
Reviews of design and marketing content for copyright or trademark issues.
Coordination with outside counsel on disputes and litigation.
Draft, review, negotiate and interpret a variety of licensing and corporate agreements, including trademark licenses, distribution and supplier agreements.
Assist on acquisition and disposition of business operations including managing legal integration of newly acquired businesses.
Handle legal entity formation and corporate housekeeping matters for subsidiaries.
Corporate, intellectual property or litigation work, as assigned.
Skills and Requirements
J.D. with excellent academic credentials.
Membership in good standing in the bar of at least one state (NY or eligibility to register as a NY in-house counsel).
3-5 years of experience in a relevant field – either corporate transactional or intellectual property (copyright and trademark) law.
Experience working in the licensing, fashion and/or retail industry is a plus.
Excellent drafting and communication skills with attention to detail.
Excellent negotiating, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple high-priority projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Business acumen, sound judgment and a pragmatic approach to problem solving.
Experience and comfort interacting with business executives.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
